Designing Clichés To Avoid At Any Cost.

Designing Clichés To Avoid At Any Cost

1- Hanging Art the Wrong Way.

Art hung the wrong way on a wall is like a character in a movie wearing a really bad costume. It doesn’t ruin your experience, but it’s just terribly distracting.

Whilst most generally agree that art should be hung at eye-level, our designers stress that this doesn’t apply in every case. “Yes, the art should be at eye level, but not if your ceilings are unusually low or high.” explains Zylus designer Gale. “If the wall were cut up vertically into four sections, think of the art being in the third quadrant if the ceiling is 8-10ft. high. For exceedingly high ceiling a vertical work is a perfect complement to tall walls.”

If it’s a collection of art then you need to treat the whole collection as one piece.

2. Buying the store look

Imagine a room that looks like it’s all been purchased from the same store. At Zylus we can’t emphasize enough on the importance to mix new and vintage elements to create an interesting, eclectic, and individualized room.

To avoid feeling like you’re in a store, our designers suggests leaving adequate room in the budget for accessories such as lamps, cushions, artworks, artifacts etc., the small pieces are what adds personality to the space.

3. Using Typical Furniture placement and style:

While it may be tempting to push a sofa against a wall facing a media stand there is more involved in planning a layout. It’s important to consider and create conversation groupings, especially if the rooms are long and narrow like many townhouses and villas in the UAE.

Also, plan your furniture placement where it takes advantage of whatever view your room has to offer.

Another cliché to avoid is furnishing an entire living room in 1 kind of sofa set. Add more interest to the space by adding a unique piece of furniture that would go well with the whole mood of the living room and not just the sofa.

4. Unsurprising Colors & Patterns

It’s very common to see predictable colors along the house. It is agonizing for our designers to see all the walls in white/neutral tones. At Zylus we urge our clients to be adventurous and paint or wallpaper the rooms with a surprising color and texture combinations to give life to those uninteresting rooms. Also, choose patterns that will easily complement the theme for the home and the owner’s style. UAE’s First Online Interior Design Company
