The Key Questions

More details the lesser confusion! Contact the designers and inquire about their areas of expertise. Discuss what you are looking for, and how you want things to be done. Remember to let your designer know, that you live in the house you are planning to get renovated and can't afford to move out temporarily, if you have any such issues.
Ask them about their consultation charges. By proceeding further, you will be provided with the fee structure with a work schedule. Though this procedure will vary from one professional to another, as some charges on an hourly basis, while some based on a square foot or on the overall project basis, these initial discussions will give you a clear picture about the designer, and you may proceed, if satisfied. Since, even basic consultation regarding your home design is chargeable, stick with a designer who has cleared all your queries.

Know The Difference Between Interior Designers and Decorators

Interior Designers are often confused with Interior Decorators. Interior decorators are restricted to work within the walls that already exists, and do not possess the ability to move walls or bring any structural changes. Whereas, interior designers have a higher degree and certification that give them the ability to make interior structural changes. They are involved in most major renovations, and complement an architectural professional by focusing on the aesthetics of an interior space. Hence, contact according to your requirements. Of course the charges will vary, but if you have plans for major renovations think about the technicality, risk factor rather than the budget.

how does one co-ordinate the design offered with the carpenter executing it to get the effect one is aiming for and offered by the designer ? Also as a home owner I am not so muc aware as to how the output needs to be acheived. How is this acheived by the designer being just that and not also the executor of the project, especially so if the design is given online ??

Hi Ms Priya.Basically the designs provided online consist of working drawings, section drawings with measurements, color with exact codes plus images of the output to be achieved.Any contractor taking up the work can easily understand the drawings and in case of any doubt, that can be cleared by few conversation :) It actually depends..Few clients have their known carpenters and just contacts for color consultation and space planning! And few for whole renovation which can be handled by being in touch with the contractors on site.As the record of the images of site before and after is maintained by the designer.Hope this information helped!
